 Metallurgy is the art and science of extracting metals from their ores and adapting these metals to satisfy human wants and Material Science is investigating relationships that exist between the structure and properties of materials.

Materials are of utmost importance for engineers, as the usage of the appropriate materials is crucial when designing systems. As a result, materials science is an increasingly important part of an engineer's education.

The knowledge of materials allows the design engineer not only to make the best material selection as a function of its application in a given product, but also to overcome its limitations where the transformation technologies become variables of the creation process.

Engineering Materials: These are the substances which are used in structures, machines, devices or products. The Knowledge of engineering materials is important for mechanical engineers to built and design different kinds of structures, machines, automobiles etc without any problem and for long time usage.
